Class 10 On-Demand Exams at NIOS

At Secondary level, On-Demand exams are most useful for two groups: current NIOS learners who want to clear a subject outside the public exam season, and students who did not pass Class 10 at another board. This page is about how each group gets there.

Which situation are you in?

Already an NIOS Secondary learner

You were admitted through regular admission (Stream-1). NIOS lets you use On-Demand exams after your first public examination, in the subjects you are admitted in, subject to seat availability.

Did not pass Class 10 elsewhere

You appeared at another board but did not clear it, or were eligible but did not appear. NIOS Stream-3 online admission is meant for you, and it is open through the year.

Stream-3 part admission

Stream-3 is NIOS's online admission route into On-Demand exams at Secondary level. According to NIOS it covers learners who:

Have passed Secondary and want part admission in one or more subjects
Appeared at Secondary level but did not pass
Were eligible to appear but did not

Part admission can be for one subject or up to four. You upload your failed mark sheet or admit card, a photo and supporting documents. Learners using Transfer of Credit send the original failed mark sheet, with their reference or enrolment number, to the NIOS Online Cell in Noida.

Students who passed some subjects at another board may be able to carry them across with Transfer of Credit and take the remaining subjects through On-Demand exams.

Subjects and passing at Secondary level

You can only sit On-Demand exams in subjects you are admitted in.
To be certified you need passes in five subjects, including at least one and not more than two languages.
At Secondary level, theory and practicals count as one unit: you need at least 33% in the aggregate where a subject has practicals.
On-Demand question papers are in English or Hindi only, which matters if you study in another medium.

What to have ready

Your NIOS enrolment number and valid NIOS identity card
A scan of a valid government ID for online authentication, such as Aadhaar or a passport
For Stream-3: your previous mark sheet or admit card and a photo
A way to pay online — credit card, debit card or net banking
