Class 12 On-Demand Exams at NIOS
At Senior Secondary level, families usually ask about On-Demand exams for one of three reasons: finishing Class 12 after not passing elsewhere, adding a subject, or improving a result. Here is how NIOS handles each.
Common reasons to use On-Demand at Class 12
Finish Class 12
You appeared at another board but did not pass, or were eligible but did not appear.
Add a subject
You have passed Senior Secondary and need an extra subject — NIOS calls this part admission.
Improve a result
You are an NIOS learner who wants a better mark in a subject already passed.
Stream-4 part admission
Stream-4 is NIOS's online admission route into On-Demand exams at Senior Secondary level, open through the year. NIOS says it covers learners who have passed Senior Secondary or above, who appeared but did not pass, or who were eligible but did not appear.
- Part admission can be for one subject or up to four.
- Learners who passed Senior Secondary at another board and take part admission receive a mark sheet for the subjects taken, not a full certificate.
- You upload your previous mark sheet or admit card, a photo and supporting documents.
Improving a result
NIOS allows a passed subject to be improved only once through the public examination, but as many times as you want through On-Demand exams, within the validity of your admission. The better result is shown on the mark sheet.
Passing rules at Senior Secondary level
You need at least 33% separately in theory and in practicals for subjects that have both, and 33% in the aggregate. If you pass the practical but not the theory, NIOS keeps the practical marks and you retake the theory.
On-Demand question papers are available only in English and Hindi. Learners in the Delhi region sit On-Demand exams at NIOS Headquarters, Noida.
